2016-01-12_16-22-26Pest: Plum Moth

Species: Grapholitha funebrana

Sector: Home & Garden

Environment: Garden

Packaging: 1 kit contains 1 x trap, 2 x lures, 2 x glue boards, 1 x hanger

The Plum Moth Trap has a triangular (delta) cross section and is made of strong, rigid, folded corrugated plastic. The insects are attracted by the manufactured pheromone lure for Grapholitha funebrana, enter the trap and are caught on the non drying glue inside the trap. The glue insert can later be removed for inspection and replacement.

The traps should be hung from trees from late April onwards. Adult insects will typically be present until mid September. It should be noted that the exact time of insect emergence will vary with location and seasonal variation. This trap is not hazardous to bees or other beneficial insects. The trap is easy to assemble. Form the outer trap into a delta shape and fold up one of the end flaps, locking it into place. Unfold one of the two glue inserts in the kit. Remove a pheromone lure from its foil sachet and place it in the centre of the glued area of the insert. Place this insert into the delta trap, ensuring the glue is facing inwards. Then fold up the other end flap of the trap which gives the trap support and helps to protect the glue surface from rain/dust. Attach the wire hanger to two holes in the top of the trap and hang in a tree. The traps should be placed at head height in fruit trees, to allow easy monitoring of catches and located centrally within the trees. Hang the traps so the prevailing wind crosses the open area of the trap, so as the odour plume is dispersed. One trap should provide protection for between 3 and 5 trees. Trap inserts and lures should be changed every 6 weeks or earlier if the glue surface appears covered with insects.
